5 Uncommon Weight Loss Tips for Men You’ve Probably Never Heard Of
In today’s article we’re sharing with you the top 5 weight loss tips for men that you do not hear very often but you need to know if you’re to lose the weight and keep it off make staying healthy a lifestyle. These are not just some common weight loss tips such as to exercise, dieting, nutrition and the rest. We all know that. These are weight loss lessons I have learned from personal experience in the last 4 years journey losing about 150 lbs. It goes beyond your normal tips you’ve probably known.
I made a lot of mistakes during that process of losing all that unwanted weight and I wanted to teach people what I learned from my mistakes in hopes that you don’t make the same mistakes.
Weight Loss Tips for Men #1: Develop Calorie Awareness
Before I embarked on my weight loss journey I had no clue how to count calories. I had no clue how many calories I was consuming or should be consuming. A big part of the reason why you, me and a lot of people gain so much weight is because we have no clue how many calories were actually consuming each day.
I suggest you develop calorie awareness and know the best you can on tracking your calories. Simply put, the way you do that is to track your consumption. Now this is not a practice that I expect people to do for the rest of your life but if you do, take I don’t know maybe a month or two to meticulously track your food intake.
I tracked my food for three years consistently and now I’m at the point where I can guess within a few hundred calories how many calories I consume throughout the day without tracking anything and it helps me so much. I’m able to maintain my weight or I’m able to lose body fat without having to track anymore. But it’s the years of tracking that gave me that tool. The goal is for you to be aware of the amount of calories that you’re consuming in relations to the amount of calories that you should be consuming in respects to whatever your specific goal is.
Weight Loss Tips for Men #2: Simplify Your Exercise
I know a big part of the reason why I used to get discouraged was because I would make exercise way too complicated and it would intimidate me in the end. I’m sure you probably can identify. So my advice is to stop overthinking exercise. Find something that you like to do. Something that you enjoy and just do that consistently and allow your knowledge to expand organically because as you start getting in better shape, it’s gonna be a natural progression.
Whether you’re in your teens, twenties, 40s or whatever you age is, it doesn’t matter. Keeping it simple is mostly the best way to lose weight and keep off. Get into a rhythm with your own exercise routine. There are simple exercises you can do at home, or outside.
Consistency is way more important than anything. You don’t have to be so technical. You just have to be consistent. Find exercises that you enjoy doing:
- whether that’s swimming
- whether that’s playing basketball
- whether that’s lifting weights
- whether that’s chasing ducks in the park
- I don’t care find something that you enjoy doing
- couple that with eating less calories as we discussed in the first point then you will lose weigh naturally.
Weight Loss Tips for Men #3: Kill Instant Gratification
This is a big one get rid of time lines, get rid of the desire for instant gratification, get rid of the desire for quick results because that desire is what gets us in trouble. When we don’t see the results we’re looking for in that frame of time.
Every single time focus on making fitness and nutrition a lifestyle versus focusing on losing weight. Let losing weight just be a by-product of you changing your habits and you changing your relationship with food. I love this so much that I want to say it again.
Am I against setting weight loss goals and fitness goals for yourself? No, not at all. However, a lot of people who want to lose weight have gotten so discouraged and simply gave up because they did not hit their target or at least lose some appreciable amount of weight.
That’s the best way to approach it mentally. When you have timelines you’re just setting yourself up for failure because weight loss is not a linear process. This it’s not something that we can calculate or we’re going to lose three pounds a week or we’re going to lose seven pounds a week but we like to have these numbers in our heads and it doesn’t happen that way.
There’s gonna be weeks where you lose three pounds consistently and then there’s gonna be weeks where you lose six pounds and then there may be three weeks where you lose no weight at all and that’s the part of the process where most people fall off. But it’s totally normal.
So if your goal is to reprogram your relationship with food, or to make fitness a part of your daily routine just like brushing your teeth, then it’s not gonna bother you because the scale is not going down then that’s not what the goal. Let that scale going down be a byproduct of you making fitness and exercise a part of your lifestyle.
Side note: this takes time that’s why consistency is so important. I’m sure you didn’t fat in a day or a week or a month. It took time for you pile on all that weight. So why would you want to shed those extra pounds in 3 days for example?
Weight Loss Tips for Men #4: Research, Research, Research
You have to educate yourself. You have to read. You have to know about nutrition. You have to know about different exercises. You don’t have to know about different diet plans or what have you. You need to know about micro-nutrients. There’s a lot of information and you have to arm yourself with the information if you’re going to be successful at losing weight.
You almost have to turn yourself into like a weight loss expert because you have to know these things if you’re going to be successful. Invest the time and energy into the learning about all these things we talked about. Why would you even pay someone to tell how different foods work for or against you? It’s because they took the time to educate themselves in that area. So you either contract a personal trainer or nutritionist, or you get the information yourself and be expert for yourself.
